Cathleen’s Running Log

Running for a Cause

Posted in Training by cathleen on the February 26th, 2007

This is my Mother, myself, and my daughter:

My mother was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis 2 years ago.

What is Pulmonary Fibrosis?

As defined by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation: Pulmonary Fibrosis involves scarring of the lung. Gradually, the air sacs of the lungs become replaced by fibrotic tissue. When the scar forms, the tissue becomes thicker causing an irreversible loss of the tissue’s ability to transfer oxygen into the bloodstream.

You can find more information about Pulmonary Fibrosis directly from the Foundation’s web site: pulmonaryfibrosis.org

How Can You Help?

I will be running in the Great Bay Half Marathon on Sunday April 1st. Runners have the opportunity to raise money for sponsored charities. I’m happy to say that the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation is one of the chosen charities this year.

Please consider pledging money to sponsor me as I run the race. All monies pledged will go 100% to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Neither I, nor the race, take any percentage of the proceeds raised. In fact, all checks should be made out directly to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

To donate to this worthy cause, please e-mail me at cathleen.brown@gmail.com first so I may record your sponsorship. Please include your name, phone number, and pledge amount.

Donations must be received two weeks after the race completion (April 15th, 2007).

Thank You!

I thank you for your support as this will be my third half marathon since starting in the sport in May of 2006.

My heart goes out to you and your family! Continue to love with all of your heart and you will get that back tenfold… at least.

Hang in there, be strong, and know that there are people out there who care!
